TCWD Rate Truths
Unfortunately, during any election cycle, special interest groups and individuals attempt to use “watchdog” blogs to appear more credible, while deliberately posting misleading information.
As part of my campaign, I am committed to telling you the truth, in detail, with verifiable facts. While I have been on the TCWD Board, I have refused any Trabuco Canyon Water District medical benefits and donated every meeting stipend to charities for 12 years. I made and kept this commitment so that TCWD customers can be 100% certain I have no personal motivation, and you can count on me to tell you the truth and be 100% fair to ALL customers.
Proposition 218 and Assembly Bill 1827 require every customer to pay their fair share, based on their connected peak capacity. Because of the size of some rural and equestrian properties, especially in the extremely high wildfire canyon area, the Orange County Fire Authority often requires large meters for fire flows to these properties. We have worked closely with impacted residents and developed a free meter downsizing program to reduce costs where possible. Many customers have benefited from the program. However, a few residents have insisted that TCWD implement different methodologies that would violate California law. That approach would lead to legal challenges that TCWD could not successfully defend, driving up rates further to pay attorney’s fees.
All of the recent online misinformation has been refuted in recent meetings. However, many customers may not have been able to join those meetings or ask questions. Therefore, the following information has been prepared in detail so you can see for yourself the fairness of the methodology used by TCWD under Proposition 218 and Assembly Bill 1827.
Don’t be fooled by the deliberate misinformation. Learn the TRUTH in the attached document, before it’s too late.
